November 2020 I opened Unity Collection in a new location in the heart of the Matakana Village. Our local Kaumatua blessed our gallery and we enjoyed a beautiful heart felt day celebrating the launch of our new Kaupapa.

Unity was first established in the early 90’s in the high fashion sector where it lived for 15 years. A long journey later I relaunched Unity but in the recycle fashion sector with values of sustainability, recycling and styling with Māori designers accessories.

This lead to the new Kaupapa of a 100% Māori creatives gallery. During Covid-19 I pivoted my store to reflect where my heart sat and to support economic development within our indigenous culture. It was a bold move to open a brick and mortar in the middle of a pandemic.

I am so happy that I backed myself along with my landlord, Sandra’s investment and the Mana Wahine I was surrounded with that passionately supported the gallery.

Thankfully Unity is thriving.

Feeling grateful x
